FAQ

  1. Can my child try a Judo lesson before I commit to paying my term fees?
  2. Answer - Yes all students are welcome to attend their first lesson as a No obligation taster session. Term fees will then become due at the 2nd lesson.

  3. What should my child wear to his or her first lesson?
  4. Answer - We recommend children initially wear tracksuit bottoms and a long sleeved sweatshirt; however, children are also welcome to wear their PE kit. Once your child starts to progress with their Judo, we recommend they obtain a Judo suit.

  5. My coach has recommended I join the British Judo Association. What are the advantages to joining and how do I join?
  6. Answer - The BJA is the national governing body for Judo in Great Britain. Joining the BJA gives your child the opportunity to represent your school and club at BJA competitions and access their national grading scheme. When you join you receive a BJA membership book, training diary, badge and other things too.

To join you need to visit the BJA website and head to the membership page. Your club is Iinkai Judo Club. Our BJA club number is 3004.

  7. Why are my term fees always higher in January of each year?
  8. Answer - Every member of the club is required to pay a £15 annual membership fee, which is payable in January of each year. This fee provides you with a number of benefits including insurance in the unlikely event of injury. New members joining mid-year pay slightly more for this reason too.

  9. Does it hurt when you get thrown?
  10. Answer - All students practise learning how to land without hurting themselves by completing exercises called breakfalls (or ukemi). Coaches run through these exercises almost every lesson. This coupled with the fact that we practise on soft mats in a disciplined environment makes being thrown a safe and fun activity. Students must remember not to practise Judo outside of class.
